Should Teens Be Allowed To Have Plastic Surgery Without Parents Approval?

Plastic surgeries have become a fashion in the modern age where individuals are considering it a cure. It is an operation that can be used to cure the skin and appearance of an individual. Plastic surgeries are helpful in making the appearance of an individual better. However, it has many negative effects that the young generation ignores. These negative effects include loss of blood, hematoma, and infections. Nerve damage is also a major issue that cannot be neglected as a consequence of plastic surgery.

For teenagers willing to involve themselves in cosmetic surgery, it is important that they are aware of the consequences that could be caused. There is no use in making changes in a healthy body. It does not matter how small the changes need to be made or how small the operation it might take. It is important to have a healthy body rather than having an attractive one. There is a risk involved with cosmetic surgery, which can lead to a permanent health issue. In case something goes wrong, the patient has to go through permanent damage. The risks that are involved are critical and can cause an individual to become handicapped. For instance, the potential risk factors involved with cosmetic surgery include chronic pain, prolonged or delayed healing, allergic reactions, heavy lung problems, blindness, etc. It is not a pain-free operation; therefore, getting involved in an operation that has huge potential risks and injuries is not a wise decision to make.

Some cosmetic surgeries have resulted in failure and often proceed to death. For instance, the death of a mother of three children Lorraine Batt took place when she went for her belly surgery (Roerich, Min-Jong 38). These events are a warning that society needs to be vigilant, especially the young teens who do not take approval from their parents before getting into such surgeries. The teenagers do not take the long-term consequences into account and are willing to take risks considering them to be occurring in negligible cases. Such surgeries make teenagers look young for a small period, and after some time, wrinkles come back, wasting money and risk. Therefore the cosmetic surgery is not a natural process and can lead to removing implants in the later stages of life.

It is also argued that changing the body from its natural state is not morally right. Everyone is unique, and it is not right to reshape or design your body looking up to someone else. It is said that the inner self is a representation of the outer self. Therefore it is important that the inner self controls the outer appearance rather than artificial looks. For instance, Michael Jackson took cosmetic surgeries, and that resulted in strange effects on his body (Neuhaus et al. 249). A lacking personality results in lacking appearance, and cosmetic surgery does not cause any difference in the personality. Therefore the negative outcomes of cosmetic surgery are much more than the benefits in their appearances. It is advisable for teenagers not to carry out cosmetic surgeries and get stuck with lifelong impairments.
